MUST KNOW KITCHEN TERMINOLOGY

Cabinet Box: This is the actual physical box of the cabinet. This does not include any drawers or doors.

 

Shaker Cabinet: A cabinet style which has a square edge, or the appearance of having a square inside the door.

 

Lazy-Susan: This style of cabinet is mainly placed in corners which includes rotating shelves for those hard to reach spots in corners.

Kitchen Sink Terminology:

 

Apron sink: Also known as a farmhouse sink, is a deep sink that has the front exposed past the countertop.

 

Undermount Sink: This sink it attached under the counter which has a hidden rim. it allows for easy cleaning and larger countertop space.

 

Drop-In Sink: This type of sink rests on top of the counter which has the rim exposed. It is easier to install but might take up more countertop space.

 

Bar Sink: Also known as a prep sink, is a smaller secondary sink.

Kitchen Appliance Terminology:

 

Built-In Appliance: These are appliances that are installed into cabinets. This allows for a more seamless, modern look.

 

Freestanding Appliance: These are appliances that are not built into the cabinets. These are easier to move around and do not require extra cabinetry.
